Serrat patents: the technology that sets our mulchers apart
What a patent is and why it matters in agricultural machinery
Published on April 22, 2026
A patent is the official recognition of a technical innovation: a system, design or process that solves a problem in a new way and that no other manufacturer can copy or reproduce. In agricultural machinery, where performance, durability and maintenance costs are critical to a farm’s profitability, the difference between a mulcher with its own technology and a generic machine can be felt in every hour of work.
Serrat has spent more than 35 years developing its own technologies for its agricultural and forestry mulchers. The result is a range of patented systems covering every key part of the machine: the rotor, the cutting systems, the tool mounting, the transmission, the material feed and operator safety. Below we explain what each of these technologies consists of and which machines and crops they apply to.
Cutting systems and rotor: the heart of the mulcher
The rotor and the cutting system are the components with the greatest influence on a mulcher’s performance, mulching quality and durability. Serrat has developed several systems of its own to optimise each of these factors.
POLSER · polygonal-section rotor
The POLSER rotor is one of Serrat’s most representative technologies. Its polygonal shape gives it greater structural rigidity than conventional cylindrical rotors, allowing it to absorb impacts without deforming even in demanding working conditions. At the same time, the polygonal design provides a degree of flexibility that protects the rotor against accidental knocks.
The forged steel supports are positioned with great precision to ensure the cutting elements are perfectly balanced, and the octagonal drive discs improve power transmission. The welds are placed in areas protected from friction with the ground to prevent premature wear.
Models: Evolution, Pro and Pro+.
Crops: citrus, olives, nut orchards and meadows.
SPLINTER · double-spiral blade rotor
The SPLINTER rotor is made up of two spirals of reversible blades in which the cutting effort is spread along the whole rotor, giving it very high rigidity and smoother, more continuous work. Each blade has two usable cutting edges, doubling its life before it needs replacing.
It is a rotor designed specifically for mulching wood from pruning residue and clearing, with a fine finish that helps the material break down quickly and return to the soil.
Models: Splinter 350 and Splinter 550.
Crops: olives, citrus, nut orchards and vineyards.
RHENDUEL · precision cutting system for self-feeding mulchers
RHENDUEL is a new cutting system for self-feeding mulchers based on blades and castellated anvils that work together to achieve a level of fineness that is not possible with conventional systems. As well as the quality of the finish, RHENDUEL reduces the power needed for mulching by around 40%, which means lower fuel consumption and the possibility of working with lower-powered tractors.
The mulched material is incorporated into the soil faster and more effectively than with other systems. This is especially valuable in nut orchards harvested with sweepers or blowers: poorly mulched material from the previous year contaminates the harvest and causes financial losses for the grower.
Crops: nut orchards, olives and citrus.
Mounting and maintenance: durability and safety
Wear on the cutting tools is one of the main maintenance costs of a mulcher. Serrat has developed several systems of its own to extend the life of hammers and teeth and make them easier to replace when the time comes.
GIROSTOP · hammer mounting system
GIROSTOP is the most advanced hammer mounting system in the Serrat range. It is based on a square-headed bolt that fits into the hammer support welded to the rotor so that it can never turn. Because the bolt cannot turn, the hammer has to turn on it, which eliminates wear on the support — the hardest and most expensive part to repair — and so protects the life of the rotor and the reliability of its balance.
The flat head of the bolt stops ropes or grass from getting tangled during work, and the system makes maintenance much simpler: hammers are changed with a single spanner, reducing downtime and improving operator safety.
Models: Evolution, Pro, Pro+ and Evolution Green.
Crops: citrus, olives, nut orchards, vineyards and meadows.
PYOLTEK · laser treatment on the hammer tip
PYOLTEK is a laser treatment applied to the wear area of the hammer tip that hardens the material and significantly extends its life. The result is a lower hourly cost for the cutting tool and fewer maintenance stops over the season, which translates directly into greater machine availability and lower operating costs for the grower.
FIXE TOP · tooth mounting for soil mulchers
FIXE TOP is the tooth mounting system developed by Serrat for its soil mulchers. Its design is based on interlocking ovals and curves between the tooth and the support, which guarantee a completely reliable hold even in the toughest work on stony soils. The bolts bear no load during work — their only job is to hold the tooth against the support — and their heads are protected from erosion by the layout of the teeth on the rotor. Each bolt has two spanner grips for when erosion makes normal access difficult.
Models: the Tiller range of soil mulchers.
Feed and transmission: consistent performance without interruptions
The ability to feed the machine continuously and to transmit the tractor’s power efficiently are decisive factors in a mulcher’s overall performance. Serrat has developed systems of its own to optimise both.
BRALAKC · helical feed system
BRALAKC is a helical mounting system that combines two key advantages: virtually complete pick-up of the material and continuous feeding without blockages. The second point is especially critical when working on windrows of large, thick pruning branches, where conventional feed systems tend to jam and the operator has to step in to restart the work.
Crops: nut orchards and olives.
SYNKRODOS 600 · double-crown gearbox
SYNKRODOS 600 is Serrat’s own gearbox for high-power machines. It is designed with a through input shaft and two crown wheels that mesh with two pinion shafts, which doubles the power transmission capacity of conventional gearboxes in the same space. It also includes an oil cooling pump and an optional rear output for combined implements.
RAIL BOX · automatic PTO shaft alignment
RAIL BOX is an automatic alignment system for the PTO shaft between the tractor and the machine that adapts to the lift position of the hydraulics. It articulates the gearbox so that the angles of the transmission joints are always as small as possible during work, reducing transmission wear and improving the efficiency of power transfer.
Safety and start-up: protecting the operator and the tractor
Safety is a priority in the design of every Serrat mulcher. As well as complying with CE regulations, Serrat has developed systems of its own to protect the operator and the tractor in risk situations.
SEKURLAST · anti-projection system
SEKURLAST is the result of a specific study of the frame design at the material inlet and outlet to eliminate the risk of objects being thrown towards the operator. Its aim is to protect both the operator and the tractor from stones or pieces of wood that may be thrown out during mulching. It is fitted across the whole Serrat range as part of the brand’s commitment to safety in agricultural work.
HIDRAHELP · hydraulic start-up system
HIDRAHELP is a hydraulic start-up system designed for machines with heavy rotors. It allows the PTO to be engaged without modulation, protecting both the tractor and the machine itself during start-up. It is especially useful on high-power forestry machines, where the rotor’s starting torque is high.
Our own technology at the service of professional growers
Serrat’s patents and proprietary technologies are not a marketing argument: they are the result of decades of work alongside growers and industry professionals who have identified real problems and demanded real solutions. Every system — from the POLSER rotor to the GIROSTOP mounting or the PYOLTEK treatment — meets a specific need: greater durability, less maintenance, more safety or better mulching quality.
Choosing a Serrat mulcher means choosing a machine with years of innovation built into every component. An investment you notice in every hour of work and every season.
